Happy September! Whether you have been at school for a few weeks now or recently started, we hope that you have had a wonderful beginning to another school year.
In conversations with Pre-K through twelfth grade educators, a key takeaway I heard over and over again was that the idea of explicitly teaching foundational concepts to students was a game-changer for them.
See what participants are saying:
I’ve been a teacher for 9 years, and how did I not incorporate this strategy sooner? It has changed everything I do in the classroom.
This was a good reminder that students need explicit instruction regarding breaking down tasks, routines, and making good choices.
I am now able to name and explicitly teach specific executive function skills.
I realized the need for explicitly teaching expected behaviors and the importance of campus wide consistency!
The importance of direct teaching executive function skills, not just implying them as we go along.
I feel way more inspired, invigorated, and hopeful!
Are we explicitly teaching our students the foundational skills they need to be successful academically and behaviorally in the classroom and beyond?
No gotchas or ‘you should have learned this by nows’.
What skills can we directly teach our students so that they have the tools to be confident, self-aware learners?
